Death threats...Gayle King...Kobe

Kobe Bryant passed away on January 26, 2020, he was only 42.

This loss, to a lot of people, was probably as hard as MJ and Prince for me.

Much like MJ, news outlets were coming out with the negative headlines, which, to be honest, it really is normal when looking back at the life once lived.

Should people continue to be hounded by their past mistakes?

Kobe was 25 when he was accused of sexually assaulting a 19 y.o hotel employee. He vehemently denied raping her but settled out of court after the criminal case against him was dropped when the teenager opted not to testify.

I have to be honest, I was so put off by Kobe when the news of the assault broke, I was so done with him and basketball. But since his passing, I have come to realize that Kobe apologized for hurting her and took responsibility for his actions. He vowed never to be in a similar situation and he made good on that promise.

Biology: hormones cause boys and girls to get "rapey" and promiscuous! This is a fact!

That it is a fact does not excuse the lack of good judgement, however, it is easier to forgive a misstep when the perpetrator recognizes their wrongdoing and works to repair the damage. And that is exactly what Kobe did. When I think about it, there was never another bad report about Kobe after that incident. As karma would have it, all the children birthed by him and wife, Vanessa, are all girls!

Kobe was a #girldad!!!

So, why would Gayle King bring up his past on an interview with Lisa Leslie? Umm, because she is a journalist. Is it fair that she is receiving death threats? Umm, come on people, take a chill pill!

I think the outrage is mostly because Gayle, Kobe, Lisa are all black! Kobe, despite that one transgression, has been a shining example of a strong black man! And, with everything that black people suffer on the regular, it is hurtful to see a black woman kicking a black man instead of celebrating him.

So Gayle says the network aired a clip, bla, bla, bla, out of context etc...I feel like she should own up to the things she said and maybe going forward exercise better judgement. Black people should do their best to elevate other black people, especially when they deserve it. Being a journalist means you should honestly relay news but you can choose what to ask and not be messy!!!
