Weapons permit...

Yes, I shall soon be a card carrying member of the NRA...

I recently applied for my weapons permit, I had been toying around with the idea for a while now and then went ahead and did it. I was informed that it could take up to three months before I receive it, that's a serious background check, if you ask me...

I had to go to the court house to fill out an application and pay some fees, then off I went to the Police station to get my finger-prints taken...fun!!

So where is my buddy Fred, I need help deciding on what piece to get...

Well, well excellent!!!! Minor point: to be precise, just getting a pistol (that is what you're getting and not a Bazooka, right?) won't automatically grant you membership in the NRA. If you were joking, apologies.

Besides, I don't have much love for the NRA these days.

So, your pistola: the easiest type of pistol is a revolver. No fuss, no muss. You won't have to deal with safeties, etc.

That said, revolvers don't have much capacity so the alternative is a semi-automatic.

Whatever the case, you must go to a gun range and rent out a Glock model 17 or 19 AND a .38 or .357 revolver and shoot at least 20 rounds through each (more's better). This will give you a good idea what each is capable of and whether you're drawn to one or the other.

That's it for now. Let me know if you'd like more information.

Nice!!

I've done 9mm and .22!

Cool, I'll try the .38 and .357. Does the brand matter? Say Glock over S&W?

ALWAYS Glock. Always.

Just re-read: Glocks make semi-automatics only. I like S&W revolvers as well as Rugers. For a personal protection round, I recommend the .357 although it's a biting round to shoot.

I tried a .357 with .38 special rounds...I'm gonna need more practice with those. I think I handle semi-automatics better than revolvers.
